Chinook Redesign and Catalog Usage     View pdf for Chinook Redesign
Jennifer Knievel, Faculty Director, Research and Instruction, University of Colorado at Boulder Libraries
Jina Wakimoto, Faculty Director, Cataloging and Metadata Services, University of Colorado at Boulder Libraries.

The Chinook OPAC redesign and implementation of WebBridge prompted the presenters to question whether the redesign influenced catalog usage. They evaluated Chinook transactional log data between Fall of 2005 and Spring of 2008. Searches for keyword, title, author, subject, LC Call Number, and ISSN/ISBN were tracked for each semester during weeks 2 and 3 of the semester, a mid-semester sampling period, and finals week. They will reveal some interesting results of their research on Chinook usage over the 3-year period.

Keeping the Crooks Out! Protecting Your E-Resources with WAM     View pdf for Keeping the Crooks Out.

Jennifer Kutzik, IT Technician II, Colorado State University Libraries
Daniel Draper, Metadata Librarian/Database Management Specialist Colorado State University Libraries

Excessive downloading of files from an e-resources vendor may result in suspension of access for a library account. Web Access Management (WAM) offers the ability to log both the IP address and the patron number in the WAM statistics files. Quick action can be taken by the library in conjunction with using the WAM blocks table to stay within contractual obligations and legal boundaries.

The first part of this session will be “Encore on the Front Range – redux.” If you attended the IUG meeting at ALA Midwinter, you heard briefly about the Encore implementations at the Denver Public Schools, Jefferson County Public Library, and the University of Denver. This session will expand on those presentations, followed presentations on the Auraria Library’s integration of WorldCat Local and Millennium, and Arapahoe Library District’s website redesign, using a customized Drupal front-end and connecting to III on the back-end for transactions.
