    9:00 am - 3:30 pm

You are now at the County Commons building which has the library and meeting rooms + other County offices. Follow the road that goes beside the building to what seems to be the back of the building and find two parking lots. Park in one and head for the flag pole - the front door is behind the flag pole. SCHEDULE

9:00 - 9:30 a.m. Registration / Welcome

9:30 - 11:45 a.m.     WebOPAC Issues Forum

  • SSL Certificates and the WebOPAC     Meg Brown-Sica and Rick Boeder, Auraria Library.
With the increase in concern about patron privacy more libraries are encrypting their user authentication for remote access with the installation of Secure Sockets Layer certificates. Inexpensive options and possible problems will be discussed.
  • Building Virtual Maps for the Library Web OPAC  :   Becky Bernal, Mesa State College Library.
This portion of the panel discussion will focus on the process that our library went through in developing and implementing various technologies to create virtual maps that have the ability to interact within our Web OPAC.
  • BREAK
  • WebOPAC Redesign     Kevin Cullen, Colorado State University Libraries.
Colorado State University began a WebOPAC redesign during spring 2004 in preparation for the launch of Millennium Silver. Lately, Innovative has made changes much easier by providing well-organized Photoshop files, implementing cascading style sheets, and allowing direct FTP access. By using these tools, some creativity and a few techniques to fool the WebPAC, you can massage your design into something worth showing off.
  • Top to Bottom Redesign    Vicki Nichols, Jefferson County Public Library.
See how usability study results can drive both website and WebOPAC redesign. This session will discuss the study results and how those ideas were integrated from top to bottom throughout the library's sites. Some of the challenges faced in redesign include using the staging directory, Silver beta test, integrating WebBridge and INN-Reach resources, and more.
  • The Rationale of Redesign    Pat Ingersoll, University of Denver Library.
Pat Ingersoll will outline the motivations, objectives, and toolsets used in the website redesign recently completed at Penrose Library. The end result attempts to accommodate typical web-age search behavior. A single search box is consistently presented and site visitors are provided the option for the highest degree of self service possible.

11:45 am - 1:15 pm     LUNCH (on your own)

1:15 - 2:15 pm    Tech Services/Cataloging Panel
Terri Lewis, Boulder Public Library, and Cynthia Colter Wilson, Jefferson County Public Library.
  • Boulder Public Library and Jefferson County Public Library have been beta testers for Millennium Silver. Many of the enhancements in this upcoming release involve the cataloging module. The presenters will describe some of the new features and changes in MilCat Silver. Terri will also discuss Boulder's process for switching from GUICat to MilCat. Cynthia will discuss the responsibilities and benefits of being a beta test site.

2:15 - 2:30 p.m. BREAK

2:30 - 3:30 p.m. Circulation Holds Management Panel
Carol Gyger, Fort Collins Public Library; and Diana Sweaney, Arapahoe Library District
  • With the volume of holds increasing and expectations of customers pushing to the limits, learn ways to streamline the holds process. Learn how to make the system work for you to improve customer satisfaction and increase turnaround. See an overview of system features for patron placed holds, self-help hold shelves, e-mail holds notification, and create lists of stale holds. Hear about the complications and challenges of managing holds in a multi-branch library district. In this world of shopping online, help your staff get on board with this great customer service.
